Keep the county clean

Being situated in a mostly rural area, Lawrence County has a serious issue with illegal dumping.

This is especially true when it comes to tires dumped off county and township roads throughout the county. This past weekend, tires that have been collected over the last several months were properly disposed of in a legal and environmentally friendly way.

Illegal dumping, especially of tires, has been an issue in Lawrence County for many years, but the ability and desire of the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District has been to ultimately alleviate these types of harmful activities, both for residents and our environment.

These efforts extend beyond tires, with many efforts aimed to deter dumping of other detrimental items as well.

We applaud the continuous work of the LSSWMD, community organizations, cities and villages, the residents along with many others who have properly disposed of a variety of items through collections over the last several years.

In order for our natural resources to continue for future generations, we must work diligently together not only during these cleanup and take-back events, but individually all year long.

It is our responsibility to pass along an environment to our children and grandchildren better than we got it from our parents and grandparents.
