Voters to decide on fire, expense measures
PROCTORVILLE — Proctorville Mayor Rick Dunfee is asking voters in the village to renew two levies when they cast a ballot in the general election on Tuesday.
A 2.5 mill levy for current expenses will go toward street lights, Dunfee said.
“If it doesn’t pass, we’ll have to turn off street lights or cut them back,” he said. “We get some money from the state, but it’s very little.”
Voters will also be asked to renew a 1 mill levy for fire protection.
“Our department is volunteer,” Dunfee said. “We sponsor the fire department and it’s our obligation to help them.”
Dunfee said the levies are already in existence and, as a renewal, will not increase taxes on village residents.
