CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals re-signed defensive end Wallace Gilberry on Monday, their first move to fix a defense that has slipped badly this season.
Gilberry left as a free agent after last season, his fourth with the Bengals. He signed with Detroit and played four games before suffering an abdominal injury. The Lions released him with an injury settlement on Oct. 11.
Cincinnati (3-4-1) ranks 21st in scoring defense after giving up the second-fewest points in the league last season. Coordinator Paul Guenther said changes were coming during the bye week. The Bengals resume with a game next Monday night at the New York Giants.
More changes are likely as Guenther considers altering the playing time at various spots.
