Blankenship made bridge possible

As we look forward to the opening of the new Ironton/Russell bridge, we will see the local dignitaries not only jockeying for position in front of the cameras, but also looking to take credit for its existence.

I honestly don’t think the whole bridge project would have happened had it not been for the persistent efforts of former mayor Rich Blankenship.

It’s probably fair to say that all concerned at ODOT and in the governor’s office grew very weary of the constant efforts of Blankenship, and the many trips he made to Columbus to make certain they knew of the importance of the bridge and to keep that awareness on the front burner. Anyone who attends that opening without acknowledging the integral part Rich played in bringing this project to fruition is either deluded or participating in a blatant exercise of self aggrandizement.

Thank you Rich for all you did in making this bridge happen for all of us. Maybe there will be one or two people who recognize all you did to get this accomplished.

Oh yeah, and you did one or two dozen other things that made our city a better place, as well. Thank you.
