Mary Pope
Beloved mother, grandmother and wife, Mary Avalon Pope, 71, of Gallipolis, passed away at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus on Nov. 14, 2016. Born April 25, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Frederick Betz, Jr. and Avalon Gardner Roush. She married Phillip L. Pope, and he survives her.
Mary was employed for 23 years as office manager at Foster Sales. Mary was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder. She was devoted her community, especially the youth of Gallia County, volunteering as a 4-H adviser for 32 years. She was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame in 2008. She was a member of Gallipolis Eastern Star 283 and the Cheshire Garden Club.
Mary’s stepfather, Lewellyn Roush, predeceased her. Mary is survived by two brothers, James Michael Betz (Robin) and William Gregory Betz (Joan), of Virginia. She is also survived by three childen, Robert D. Foster (Jennifer), of Bidwell, Howard J. Foster (Melinda), of Gallipolis, and Amanda P. Thompson (Stuart), of Lexington, Kentucky. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Megan Foster, Mandy Foster, Taylor Foster, Morgan Foster, Rhett Thompson, Alaina Thompson, Thomas Foster, Kate Foster and Halee Myers.

Robert Crockrel
Robert “Bobby” Edward Crockrel, 59, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Bobby was born May 24, 1957, in Ironton, a son of the late Robert L and Ruth G. (Nelson) Crockrel.
Bobby was a 1976 graduate of Ironton High School. He was a former maintenance worker for Ironton Metropolitan Housing and a member of Central Christian Church.  Bobby had a passion for all sports, which led him to be a referee and umpire for over 25 years. In addition, he was a former board member Ironton Little League and a coach for Ironton youth football and Ironton Little League. He was also very active in Ashland’s Summer Motion, where he also served as a board member.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Charles Crockrel; and sister, Dorothy Crockrel.
He is survived by two daughters, Diana Richardson, of Dallas, Texas, and Brandi Crockrel, of Ironton; son, Richard Crockrel, of Ironton; granddaughter, Amara Edens, of Ironton; two sisters, Victoria Nelson and Mary (Charles, Jr.) Spencer, both of Ironton; three brothers, Jeffery (Joni) Crockrel, John (Janet) Crockrel and William Crockrel, all of Ironton; special friend, Debbie Crockrel; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with Elder J.D. Crockrel and pastor Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Betty Warren
Betty Lou Warren, 80, of Crown City, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, by pastor Meredith Turley. Burial will follow in Crown City Cemetery, Crown City. Mark Rieder
Mark A. Rieder, 50, of Proctorville, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Susan Hall Rieder.
