CHILLICOTHE — A win by any other name is still a win.
Playing back-to-back nights had an affect on the South Point Pointers, but they still managed to get the same results as they beat the Circleville Tigers 72-61 in the Zane Trace Classic on Saturday.
“We were sluggish. We didn’t play well the first half and the first part of the third quarter,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.
“But we finally picked it up in the third quarter and it carried over into the fourth quarter. The big thing is we didn’t play well and we still won.”
Elijah Adams had a big game for the Pointers with 19 points and six assists. Tayshaun Fox scored 14 points and Tanner Hall had 10 points and five rebounds. Logan Wade grabbed six rebounds.
Seth Risner scored 17 points while Jordan Taylor and Jay Styers had 16 each to lead Circleville (0-1).
South point took an 18-15 first quarter lead as Adams scored 8 points and Fox had 6 more.
The Pointers extended their lead to 35-26 at the half as Adams scored 5 more points.
Circleville rallied in the third quarter to draw within 50-45.
Cade Brandt made 5-of-6 from the foul line and the Pointers outscored Circleville 22-16 in the fourth quarter.
South Point visits South Webster on Tuesday.
