SOUTH POINT — With the offense a little sluggish, the South Point Lady Pointers went to Plan B: defense.
The Lady Pointers turned in a strong defensive effort as they coasted past the South Webster Lady Jeeps 55-27 on Saturday.
“It was a good win for us. We played really good defense,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.
The Lady Pointers (2-0) put three players in double figures as Abby Hannah scored 13 points, Emilee Whitt 12 and Leah Lawson added 10.
“We had three girls in double figures with Hannah, Lawson and Whitt. We need that kind of balance,” said Adams.
The game was tied at 9-all at the end of the first quarter, but then things began to change.
“The second quarter was the turning point,” said Adams.
Whitt scored 9 of her points in the second quarter as South Point took the lead for good and it was 22-13 at the half.
Lawson scored 5 points in the third quarter as she and Hannah each hit 3-pointers and the Lady Pointers pulled away to a 34-23 lead.
South Point finally got its offense on track in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Lady Jeeps 21-4.
Hannah had a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points in the quarter as South Point pulled away to the easy win.
Madison Cook had 10 points for South Webster (0-4).
South Point hosts Coal Grove on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
