PEDRO — Doing the right thing isn’t always rewarded.
Rock Hill did the right thing on defense, but Tanner Kimbler made the decision backfire as he hit a 3-point goal with four seconds to play that lifted the Green Bobcats over the Redmen 61-58 in overtime on Tuesday.
“We got caught trapping down inside and they threw an outlet pass and Kimbler hit a 3-pointer,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue. “We had to cut off the ball down low but their kid just hit a big shot. Give him credit.”
Mason Darby had 4 points for Rock Hill but Green took an 8-4 first quarter lead.
Tyler Damron scored 7 points in the second quarter as Rock Hill rallied to take a 22-21 halftime lead.
Darby scored 8 points and Jaret Bacorn had all 7 of his points in the third quarter and Rock Hill was up 38-36. The Redmen led 38-30 at one time.
Timmy Adkins scored all 8 of his points in the fourth quarter but Green was able to tie the game at 49 and for the overtime.
The teams remained tied until Kimbler hit his 3-pointer that rolled around the rim before falling in.
The Redmen managed to get off a desperation 3-pointer but it failed to connect.
“Basketball is a game of runs and it was one run after another,” said Gue.
“That’s two games in a row we were in position to take a win and didn’t come through. But our guys didn’t get down. They battled over and over again.
Darby led the Redmen with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Damron scored 11 points, while Bacorn had 7 points and 7 rebounds.
Kadin France grabbed 5 rebounds, Nate Harmon had 5 assists and Logan Hankins 3 assists for the Redmen (0-2).
Green’s Tayte Carver led all scorers with 24 points while Kimbler finished with 19 points.
Rock Hill visits Rose Hill Christian on Thursday.
