SOUTH WEBSTER — It was the shot heard round the gym.
Jared Whitt hit a 30-footer at the buzzer to lift the South Point Pointers to a 46-43 win over the South Webster Jeeps on Tuesday.
After the ball was knocked away on an inbounds pass, Whitt picked up the loose ball and hit his long jumper as time ran out to keep the Pointers unbeaten.
“That was a great shot. Overall we played well as a team and everybody contributed,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise whose team is now 3-0 with all road wins.
“Everyone gave us a spark. I think we’re finally learning how to play on the road. They’ve all responded to the challenge. It’s good to see the confidence in their faces.”
South Point was led by Elijah Adams with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Tayshaun Fox added 9 points and 4 steals.
Matthew Shonkwiler had 12 points for the Jeeps.
“We’ve played three games in five days. I knew it was going to be a low-scoring. That’s the way they play. We knew Zimmerman was a good kid and we held him to five points,” said Wise.
“We did a good job fighting through adversity. We missed five layups in the first quarter and got behind. But we fought back.”
South Webster led 13-10 after the first quarter before the Pointers rallied to take a 23-22 halftime lead.
Adams had 6 points in the third quarter as South Point went up 37-32.
The Jeeps came back to tie the game in the fourth quarter before Whitt hit his clutch shot.

The Pointers host Coal Grove next Tuesday in an OVC game.
