Lady Panthers use FTs to get win

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers like a good bargain, so they couldn’t pass up “free.”
In a game decided at the foul line, the Lady Panthers were 17-of-21 from the foul line for the game and the Lady Pointers were just 5-of-18 as Chesapeake won 52-47 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Chesapeake’s Natalee Hall scored 22 points including 8-of-9 at the line. Dominique Murphy scored 16 and was 7-of-8 at the line.
“It was a hard-fought game. They beat us at the foul line. We just didn’t make them and they did,” said Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams.
South Point (3-1, 1-1) was led by Kate Mundy with 12 points and Emilee Whitt had 11.
Chesapeake (3-0, 2-0) went up 10-7 in the first quarter and Murphy hit a pair of 3-pointers and Hall made two baskets.
Mundy had 4 points and Abby Hannah hit a triple as South Point cut the deficit to 22-20 at the half.
Hall got 5 more points in the third quarter as Chesapeake extended its lead to 31-26.
Hall scored 11 points including 7-of-8 from the foul line and Murphy was 5-of-6 at the line in the fourth quarter. The Lady Panthers were 13-of-16 from the line in the quarter as each team scored 21 points.
Whitt hit a pair of 3-pointers, Lawson scored 6 points and Badgett added 5 points in the quarter. The Lady Pointers were just 3-of-10 from the line.
In league games on Monday, Chesapeake is at Rock Hill and South Point visits Portsmouth.
