PORTSMOUTH — There’s a reason the South Point Lady Pointers won Monday’s Ohio Valley Conference game.
Actually, there’s five reasons.
The Lady Pointers have five players in double figures and nine players in the scoring column as they pounded the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 75-27 on Monday.
Brooklyn Badgett and Ashley Perkey scored 12 points each to lead South Point (4-1, 2-1). Madison Kearns and Maddy Khounlavong had 11 points apiece and Leah Lawson added 10 points.
Hannah Hughes was the lone bright spot for Portsmouth. She made four 3-pointers and led the Lady Trojans with a game-high 16 points.
South Point blitzed the Lady Trojans 18-1 in the first quarter as Lawson hit a pair of 3-pointers and five different players scored.
Badgett had 4 points and Kate Mundy hit a triple as seven different players scored to open up a 37-7 halftime cushion.
Mundy’s two baskets and Emilee Whitt’s 3-pointer helped extend the lead to 54-15 after three quarters. Hughes made two 3-pointers for Portsmouth (0-4, 0-3).
Kearns scored all 11 of her points in the fourth quarter as South Point outscored Portsmouth 21-12.
Hughes scored 8 points including two trifectas for the Lady Trojans.
In OVC games on Thursday, South Point hosts Fairland and Portsmouth visits Chesapeake.
