GALLIPOLIS — A fast start brought Chesapeake to a near standstill.
The Gallipolis Blue Devils used a fast start to beat the Panthers 53-31 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Tuesday.
Justin Peck scored 8 points and the Blue Devils took a 12-0 lead before Jake Stevens scored with 11 seconds on the clock and it was 11-2 at the end of the quarter.
Overall, Gallipolis (3-0, 1-0) hit 12 of its first 18 field goal attempts to start the game. Peck and Zach Loveday scored 6 points each in the quarter and the Blue Angels led 27-9 at the half.
Conversely, Chesapeake went scoreless on its first 10 possessions and they were 3-of-19 in the first half.
Gallipolis got 9 points from Peck in the third quarter and held its biggest lead of the game at 40-12 with 3:45 on the clock. Stevens made a pair of 3-pointers as the Panthers got within 29-12 at the 7:28 mark of the quarter.
The Blue Devils were up to 43-17 at the end of the third quarter.
Stevens finished with 13 points for the Panthers (0-3, 0-1).
Peck had 23 points and 11 rebounds while Loveday got 13 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots for Gallipolis (3-0, 1-0).
Chesapeake hosts South Point on Friday.
