CHESAPEAKE — When it comes to the Ten Commandments, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers know not to covet they neighbors’ goods.
That doesn’t mean they can’t covet their own.
The Lady Panthers coveted everyone of their possessions on Wednesday as they slipped past the Greenup County Lady Musketeers 34-26 in the semifinals of The Lady Peake Holiday Tournament.
Chesapeake (6-1) will play Rock Hill at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the championship game. South Point plays Greenup County at 5:30 in the consolation game.
Greenup County used a deliberate offense to run time off the clock before taking a shot. The Lady Panthers showed their patience and countered by making sure they took a good shot.
“The pace didn’t bother us, but it made every possession that much more important,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Chris Ball.
“Defensively we made a couple of changes in the fourth quarter. The defense played pretty well.”
Jozy Jones scored 12 points and Natalee Hall added 8 points for Chesapeake.
Gracie Haywood scored 12 points to lead Greenup County (2-4).
Jones scored 6 points as Chesapeake took an 8-4 lead. Haywood scored 5 points in the second quarter to match the Lady Panthers’ output as the Lady Musketeers took a 14-13 halftime lead.
Hall picked up her third foul quickly in the third quarter and was forced to sit out until six minutes remained in the game.
Chesapeake took a 21-20 lead after three quarter and then made 9-of-12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Hall scored 6 points in the fourth quarter including 4-of-4 from the line. Jones also went 4-of-4 at the line in the quarter.
“Hall kind of flipped the switch for us. The defense picked it up a notch and 12 points were a big spark for us,” said Ball.
