SJHS, IHS shared positive experiences

On Saturday, Dec. 17, the St. Joseph High School Flyers’ student-athletes played one of their regular season “home” basketball games against Green High School Bobcats in the Ironton High School Conley Center. It was an exciting game and a wonderful experience for the players, cheerleaders, officials and fans.

I want to thank Mr. Mark Lafon, IHS athletic director, Mr. Dean Nance and all the administrativ personnel at our local public school for this wonderful opportunity for the student-athletes and the large number of fans of SJHS and Green High School. The participants and the fans enjoyed the spacious facilities with plenty of room in the Conley Center for all aspects of the athletic contest.

May I add that it gave me great joy to see young singers from both of our Ironton high schools, IHS & SJHS, take their parts in the 200th anniversary celebration of Lawrence County on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Sharing more than a gymnasium, they shared the indoor stairs in our local courthouse to give honor to God and respect to our government and our community.

Positive encouragement to our youth in their academic endeavors, sporting events, performing arts, etc. all work together to help form our youth who are our future.

Let me express my deep appreciation to the leadership team at Ironton High School for opening their facilities to St. Joseph High School events. They are to be commended in regularly sharing their facilities for the many common interests that we all hold dear. As Catholic Christian taxpayers, we are not entitled to this consideration; however, it is most deeply appreciated when it can be arranged for the benefit of your youth, our schools and our community.
