Donations also needed for cat shelter
Time is running out for Lawrence County residents to get dog tags at a reduced price.
According to Melissa Nicely, the pound keeper at the Lawrence County Animal Shelter, tags are available until the end of January for $12 each, and for $10, if proof an animal is spayed or neutered is provided.
After Jan. 31, the price will be raised to $24, she said, unless the Lawrence County Commission grants an extension, as they did last year.
Tags are available at the shelter, the county auditor’s office, Tim’s Gas and Go on State Route 93, The Bureau of Motor Vehicles office in Proctorville, Jim’s Gun and Tackle in Proctorville, Puppy Stylez in South Point and Dickess Market in Aid, Nicely said.
She said the shelter is also in need of donations for the cat shelter at the facility, which has been open for about two years and is currently home to about 12 cats.
“We have two years left to pay on it,” she said.
An animal rescue group pays $202 per month for the cost of the shelter.
“We have 11 payments left to go,” Nicely said.
The shelter focuses on adoption and has a “low kill” policy, avoiding euthanizing unless an animal is too sick to be kept.
