One bad apple did spoil the whole bunch for the St. Joseph Female Flyers.
A bad third quarter proved to be the difference as St. Joseph fell to the Trimble Lady Tomcats 42-37 on Saturday.
Megan Riley hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points while Kaitlyn Sheridan scored five more and St. Joseph took a 13-6 first quarter lead.
But the Female Flyers managed just three field goals in the second quarter and five difference players scored for Trimble to cut the deficit to 19-18 at the break.
Trimble then had a big third quarter by outscoring the Female Flyers 17-6 to take a 35-25 lead. Sydney Hardey hit a 3-pointer and scored seven points and Emily Ward had five points to spark the Tomcats.
Morgan Turner scored five points and Ashley Bartram got four more as St. Joseph mounted a fourth quarter rally.
The Female Flyers went on an 8-0 run to get within two points, but Ward was 3-of-3 from the foul line to help preserve the win.
Riley had 10 points to lead the Female Flyers (6-9). Sheridan added eight points, Turner seven and Bartram six.
Bartram and Riley had seven rebounds each and Ashee Blankenship five. Grace Miller and Sheridan had three assists each and Turner two. Turner had five steals while Riley and Blankenship had three each.
Hardy had 14 points, Ward 12 and Skylar Moore nine points to pace Trimble.
St. Joseph will host Rose Hill Christian on Monday.
