CHESAPEAKE — If there’s a lost and found for scoring, the Chesapeake Panthers are looking for the “Found” box.
The Panthers started even with the Minford Falcons on Saturday in the annual Beast of the Southeast, but then they lost their offense and couldn’t find it until it was too late as they fell 57-38.
The game was tied 11-11 after the first quarter as Austin Jackson scored five points and Cole Mills hit a 3-pointer. Matthew Gullett scored five in the quarter for the Falcons.
Gullett came back with seven points in the second quarter including a 3-pointer as Minford pulled away to a 25-16 halftime lead.
Dillon Shepherd scored six points in the third quarter as Minford extended its lead to 38-22.
Casey McComas scored eight points in the fourth quarter for the Panthers, but the Falcons were 7-of-8 from the foul line as they outscored Chesapeake 19-16.
McComas scored 10 points and Jackson added nine to pace the Panthers (2-9).
Gullett scored a game-high 20 points including four 3-pointers to lead Minford. Simon Thoroughman added 11 points and Shepherd had 10.
Chesapeake hosts Fairland on Friday.
