WHEELERSBURG — It’s always tougher on the road.

The South Point Pointers fell behind early and battled back only to fall short to the Wheelersburg Pirates 65-51 on Saturday.

South Point (8-5) fell behind 23-9 after the first quarter but Cade Brandt scored seven points and Logan Wade had five more as the Pointers cut the deficit to 32-30 at the half.

The Pirates were able to go up 48-42 after three quarters and then outscored the Pointers 17-9 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

“It was a pretty good game, we just didn’t start good. The first quarter killed us. We’ve got to put four quarters together,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.

“We didn’t quit. We came back, but we just couldn’t get the play we needed in the fourth quarter.”

Wade had 14 points and five rebounds while Brandt had 11 points and five rebounds to lead the Pointers.

Kaden Coleman scored 28 — 20 in the second half including 12 in the fourth quarter — for Wheelersburg. Tanner Bivens and Cole Lowery added 10 points each.

South Point visits Coal Grove on Tuesday.
