Lady Pointers trump Trojans

SOUTH POINT — Going back-to-back got the South Point Lady Pointers going forward.
After losing a close game at Wheelersburg on Wednesday, the Lady Pointers bounced back on Thursday with a 58-36 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Portsmouth Lady Trojans.
“It was a good win for us playing back-to-back nights,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams. “We were a little sluggish, but we had a big first quarter and Kate (Mundy) had a big night.”
South Point 10-6, 6-3) jumped out to a 22-5 first quarter lead as Mundy scored six points and Emily Whitt hit a 3-pointer and scored five points.
Leah Lawson and Mundy scored four points each in the second quarter as the Lady Pointers extended their lead to 32-13 at the half.
South Point went up 49-24 after three quarters as Mundy hit a triple and scored five points, Elisha Spencer had four points and Abbey Hannah hit a 3-pointer.
Mya Williams scored six points for the Lady Trojans in the quarter.
Hannah had four more points in the fourth quarter to offset five points by Portsmouth’s Kylisha Kearns.
Mundy finished with a game-high 17 points. Hannah had 10 points and Lawson added nine points.
“We continue to improve on the defensive end and stay balanced on offense,” said Adams.
Kearns scored nine points and Williams eight for Portsmouth.
South Point visits Fairland on Monday. Portsmouth hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame on Saturday and Chesapeake on Monday.
