GALLIPOLIS — So, no letdown, huh?
The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers were coming off a big 47-40 over Fairland on Monday while the Gallipolis Blue Angels got a 58-57 overtime win over Rock Hill. The setting could have been perfect for a Gallipolis upset.
The Lady Tigers made sure that didn’t happen immediately as they buried the Blue Angles 72-36 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Ironton (13-4, 9-1) led 22-0 after the first quarter and scored the first 24 points of the game before Gallipolis’ Jennelle Stevens made a basket with 6:55 left in the second quarter.
Lexie Arden scored six points while Sydney Webb, Alyssa Lewis and Taiya Hamlet had four points each in the first quarter.
Webb hit a 3-pointer and scored five points, Lexi Wise also had five points and Hamlet got four more points as Ironton opened up a 41-15 lead at the break.
Alex Barnes scored six points and Jenkins five in the quarter for Gallipolis.
Lewis and Arden scored six points each in the third quarter as Ironton extended its lead to 58-25.
Lewis had five points including a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and Ironton’s largest lead was 72-34 when Haylee Stevens converted a three-point play with 1:34 to go go.
Kimberly Edelmann hit a 3-pointer and scored five points for the Blue Angels.
Lewis scored a game-high 17 points to lead five Ironton players in double figures.
Arden had 15 points, Wise scored 12, Webb had 11 and Hamlet added a career-high 10 points.
Barnes scored 11 for Gallipolis (6-10, 2-7).
On Monday, Ironton visits Rock Hill and Gallipolis hosts Coal Grove.
