CG girls stumble at Gallia

GALLIPOLIS — It looks like 3-out-of-4 wasn’t good enough.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets played well for three quarters but went cold in the fourth quarter as they lost 50-42 to the Gallipolis Blue Angels in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
The game featured four lead changes and eight ties, the last 37-37 at the end of the third quarter.
Lauren Crum scored 10 points in the first quarter for Coal Grove and the game was tied at 14.
Carly Shriver scored seven points while Hunter Copley and Adrienne Jenkins had four each as Gallipolis took a 31-27 halftime lead.
Destiny Dolen had seven points as Coal Grove held a 20-16 lead in the quarter, the Lady Hornets largest lead of the game.
Emily Compliment and Bailee McKnight combined for seven points in the third quarter as Coal Grove tied the game.
Coal Grove trailed 43-42 after a free throw by Compliment with 1:47 to go, but Gallipolis went up 46-42 with 48 seconds left on a three-point play by Jenkins.
Jenkins made two free throws with 32 seconds to play for a 48-42 lead and Shriver hit both ends of a one-and-one with 15 seconds left to make it 50-42, the largest lead of the game by either team.
Compliment scored 17 points and Crum 11 to lead Coal Grove (10-8, 5-6).
Copley scored 113 points with Shriver and Jenkins getting 11 each for Gallipolis (7-10, 3-7).
On Thursday, Coal Grove is at Rock Hill and Gallipolis visits South Point.
