WILLOW WOOD — Let’s get physical.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings changed styles and faced the physical play of the Portsmouth West Lady Senators on Monday.
The change in style didn’t affect the outcome as the Lady Vikings beat West 63-38.
“It was a good game for us going into the tournament. It was a physical game and you get those kind of games in the tournament,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter.
Jensyn Shepherd had 26 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the Lady Vikings (14-5). Payton Walsh added 19 points and four steals, Kaitlyn Crabtree got 11 points and four steals, and Kassie Baldwin got 10 assists and four steals.
“Walsh, Shepherd and Crabtree have been playing pretty well the last three weeks. Hopefully we’re getting better as a team,” said Carpenter.
Symmes Valley was 26-of-56 from the field for 46 percent
Morgan Rigsby scored 10 points for West (5-14).
Walsh scored seven points in the first quarter as the Lady Vikings took a 16-8 lead.
Shepherd got eight points in the second quarter to offset seven points by Jordyn Swords as Symmes Valley built a 34-17 halftime lead.
Shepherd came back to get eight more points in the third quarter and the lead was 45-27.
Symmes Valley visits Western on Wednesday and Portsmouth Clay on Thursday.
