Valerie Rowland

March 26, 1950 — Jan. 30, 2017

Valerie “ReRe” Vogelsong Rowland, 66, of Cincinnati, joined the kingdom of heaven on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. The Ironton native was born on March 26, 1950, and is the devoted daughter of the late Donald and Patricia Murphy Vogelsong.
Valerie was a graduate of Ironton High School, Class of 1968, where she was a dazzling majorette. Valerie was a devoted educator and Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Allied Health at Northern Kentucky University, which she adored. She was a former employee of many educational institutions including her beloved Alma Mater, The Ohio State University. Valerie also dearly loved spending time with her family, friends, and taking trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Valerie is survived by son and future daughter-in-law, Andrew Rowland and Michelle Martin, of Richboro, Pennsylvania; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Jeremy Gitzlaff, of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; furchild, Lily, her beloved dog and sidekick; stepmother, Ann Riley Vogelsong, of Ironton; cousin and brotherly figure, George and his wife Elfie Kinney, of Sardinia; uncle, James, and his wife, Darlene Murphy, of Venice, Florida; and several dear nieces, nephews, cousins and family members.
The family would like to thank Valerie’s incredible neighbors, co-workers and friends for holding her close and taking such special care of her, Lily, and her home. We would also like to extend a large amount of gratitude to her health care team at Mercy Anderson Cancer Center as well as at the Cancer Care Clinic at Froedtert Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Valerie battled breast cancer for over 20 years and she did it fearlessly, faithfully and with the strength of a warrior. Valerie left a lasting impression on everyone she met and will be missed immensely.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Mike Huff officiating. Rita Russell

Rita Faye Gollihue Russell, 59, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017.
She was the daughter of the late Manuel D. Gollihue and Agnes Williams Adkins Gollihue.
Rita was born Feb. 20, 1957, in Ironton, where she made her home. She was a homemaker and of the Apostolic faith. She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Danny Adkins, of Blair, Nebraska, and Steve Adkins, of Ironton; and sister, Rosalie Adkins, of Ironton.
She is survived by her pride and joy, her daughter, Sarah (Steven) Douglas; her beloved grandchildren, Conner Russell, Shyannea Douglas and Shawn Douglas; her sisters, Paula Blankenship and Sandra Gollihue; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton.

Marshall Lee Scarberry, 77, of Proctorville, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

William Johnson Sr.

William Eugene Johnson, Sr., 99, of Proctorville, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at home.

Evelene Marie Morris Courts “Sis” Christian, 83, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia.
Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with pastor Mitch Webb officiating.
