Lady Pointers whip Blue Angels again

GALLIPOLIS — The Gallipolis Blue Angels were better, but the South Point Lady Pointers were still the best.
Last Thursday South Point blasted Gallipolis 73-33. Wednesday’s makeup game was closer but the Lady Pointers still won handily, 60-46.
Brooklyn Badgett and Madison Kearns scored 13 points each and Emilee Whitt had 12 points to lead the Lady Pointers (12-8, 8-5).
Kate Mundy had nine rebounds while Leah Lawson, Ashley Perkey and Maddy Khounlavong got four each.
Hunter Copley scored 19 points and Adrienne Jenkins 14 points to lead Gallipolis (9-12, 3-10). Carly Shriver grabbed seven rebounds.
South Point wasted little time picking up where it left off in the last meeting by taking a 22-7 first quarter lead.
The Lady Pointers never trailed in the game and opened up a 17-2 lead at the 3:21 mark on a basket by Lawson. Badgett and Kearns scored six points each in the quarter with Whitt and Kearns each hitting a triple.
South Point led by as many as 16 points twice in the second quarter as five different players scored. Jenkins had seven points in the quarter.
Lawson’s basket at the 2:21 mark of the third quarter gave South Point its biggest lead of the game at 49-22. Whitt and Kearns had five points each in the quarter.
Copley made a pair of 3-pointers and Jenkins hit another for the Blue Angels in the third quarter.
Gallipolis managed to get within 53-44 with 1:19 to play as Copley scored seven points. Copley and Shriver each hit 3-pointers in the quarter.
South Point was 9-of-14 from the line in the fourth quarter including Badgett who was 4-of-4.
South Point hosts Rock Hill on Thursday and visits Tolsia, W.Va., on Saturday. Gallipolis hosts Portsmouth on Thursday.
