Donald Jarrells

Nov. 19, 1932 — Feb. 6, 2017

Donald W. Jarrells, 84, of Jackson, South Carolina, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at his residence. The Flatwoods, Kentucky, native was born Nov. 19, 1932, a son of the late John Millard and Hazell McGraw Jarrells. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary VanGundy Jarrells, who passed away Feb. 4, 2001.
Mr. Jarrells attended Coal Grove High School and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a plant operator for Ashland Oil for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed woodworking, amateur photography, and loved to read books.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Freda Bloomberg and Delores Conley; and a brother, Lee Jarrells.
He is survived by two daughters, Grace (Jose) Hernandez of Eldorado, Texas, and Donna (Rock) Holley, of Jackson, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Joshua (Melissa) Holley, Maria (David) Overstreet, Chastity James, Joey Hernandez, Marcos (Jileesa) Hernandez and Patricia (Luis) Huichapa; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Diane (Carl) Adkins, of Nebraska; and two brothers, Ed (Martha) Jarrells, of North Carolina, and Joe (Leilani) Jarrells, of Florida.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by V.F.W. Post 8850 and Minister Clarence Day Jr. officiating. Elder Wilson

Nov. 21, 1950 — Feb. 7, 2017

Elder Loren Wilson, 66, of Willow wood, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, West Virginia. Elder was born on Nov. 21, 1950, son of Leslie E. Wilson, of Willow Wood, and the late Alfreda Dillon Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Dean Wilson.
He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Mary Jo Campbell Wilson; two daughters, Jo-el (Scott) Whitehead, of Willow Wood, and Noreen (Brett) Tawney, of Huntington; one son, Les (Amory) Wilson, of Proctorville; and four grandchildren, Meagan (Josh) Fry, Tristan Wilson, Bryce Whitehead and Taylar Wilson.
He is also survived by one brother, Everett (Polly) Wilson, of Patriot; two sisters, Gail (David) Carpeter, of Kitts Hill, and Ginny (Steve) Heggen, of Nevada; brother-in-law, Ray (Jan) Campbell, of Texas; sister-in-law, Susie (Steve) Gool, of Proctorville; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
He was a member of New Zion Curch and had been a pastor for over 25 years. He was a beloved son, husband, dad and pawpaw. Elder Wilson was loved by many churches and church members throughout the area by being an inspiration and spiritual leader to multitudes of people he considered extended family.
He was the assistant moderator of the Centerpoint Association of United Baptist for over 20 years. For 48 years, he worked as a union sprinkler fitter. The family would like to express their gratitude to a host of family and friends as well as The Hospice House for taking care of him and his family during his time there.
Funeral service to celebrate his life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church off Greasy Ridge, Willow Wood, with pastor Darrell Fowler and paster Roger Smathers officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Lucy Rase

June 18, 1936 — Feb. 8, 2017

Lucy Jane Rase, 80, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Jo-Lin Nursing Home. The Greenup County, Kentucky native was born June 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Orville and Creola Allen Boggs. She is survived by her husband, Larry David Rase, whom she married on Dec. 23, 1961.
Lucy graduated from Wheelersburg High School and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruby Hale, Opal Webb, Monnie Bishop and Dorothy Carter.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Cathy J. (R. Scott) Hanks, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Luanne Rase Bowman, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; four grandsons, Jacob A. Hanks and Benjamin S. Hanks, both of Ashland, Kentucky, and Elijah E. Bowman and Caleb D. Bowman, both of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; sister, Mary A. Howard, of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. There will be no public visitation. Condolences may be made online at www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

Carol Rase

June 4, 1939 — Feb. 9, 2017

Carol Fay Rase, 77, of Pedro, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. She was born June 4, 1939, in Pedro, to the late Fred Rase and Bertha Meyers Rase.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Layberger.
She is survived by one son, Henry Rase; one daughter, Bonnie Rase; a sister-in-law, Betty Rase; and several nieces. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Rase, Lemoine Rase and Chester Rase; and three sisters, Ruth Cook, Dorothy Rase and Helen Rase.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with pastor Roy Roach officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Burial Park. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Juanita Crabtree

Juanita Crabtree, 92, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at a local health care facility. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens and visitation will be from noon until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Beverly Denney

Beverly Sue Denney, 75, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at home.  She is survived by her husband, Lester Denney. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, West Virginia.
