Drugs affect more than user

We all know that drugs are a serious problem in communities throughout the region. And the focus, rightfully so, is aimed toward helping the individuals addicted.
However, while the rehabilitation is concentrated on users, we must remember to focus help on their families as well.
Drug and alcohol abuse doesn’t only effect the offender, but anyone associated with them including family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and those that they may come in contact with.
Often, those who are secondarily affected may not understand what is going on or know how to handle the situations they find themselves in.
One of the most important things we can do as a community is understand the step-by-step process and how to best help all involved.
It is extremely important for the user and their loved ones to know they are not alone.
In the coming weeks, The Tribune will publish a series of stories taking a “Closer Look” at the process for helping addicts recover.
As a community, it is crucial for us to know the intricacies if we are ever going to completely understand what we are up against and ultimately win this battle.
