Ironton elementary students visit nursing home

Ironton Elementary School Student Leadership Team visited the Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley on Feb. 12.

The team of twelve fifth-grade students handed out Valentine’s Day cards and candy to nursing home residents. The team enjoyed giving hugs, singing songs, and making new friends in the community.

The student leadership team serves many functions at IES. They analyze curriculum and teaching methods. By responding to teachers, the team helps improve instruction and learning. The team organizes and operates events.

The school system has a district leadership team that includes teachers and administrators, and each school has a team of teachers that represent the building.

Each grade level or content area also has its own teacher-based team. The school district has become a model for developing student-based teams.
