ROCKSPRINGS — It was like another day at the office.
The St. Joseph Flyers didn’t encounter any real problems as they beat the Federal Hocking Lancers 53-28 in the Division IV sectional tournament semifinals on Wednesday.
They Flyers were methodical in their execution and committed only five turnovers for the game.
“We took care of the basketball. We shared the ball well and we were very efficient. We were solid,” said Flyers’ coach Rex Cooksey who recorded his first Ohio postseason win after coaching 40 years in Kentucky.
The Flyers now face Racine Southern at 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the sectional finals. Southern won the regular season meeting 61-52 on Feb. 10.
Chase Walters had 14 points and five rebounds while Zac McGraw scored 13 points to go with three assists and three steals to lead the Flyers (11-12).
Jared Hawk had 10 points for the Lancers (0-23).
McGraw and Walters scored four points each in the first quarter and the Flyers led 11-4.
Tre Neal scored six of his seven points in the second quarter and McGraw added four more as St. Joseph built a 26-9 lead at the break.
Walters pumped in 10 points in the third quarter as St. Joseph extended the lead to 39-14.
Isaac Whaley scored four points while Peyton Adkins and McGraw scored three each in the fourth quarter.
