Mary Lou Sands

May 30, 1927 — Feb. 20, 2017

Mary Lou Norris Sands, 89, of South Point, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at her residence. She was born May 30, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, a daughter of the late Vernon B. and Mary Barnett Norris. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Donald Allen “Blondie” Sands; a son, the Rev. James Allen Sands; and a granddaughter, Joy Andrea Sands.
Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who helped raise three of her grandchildren, Eric, Emily and Ethan. She was a graduate of Ironton High School, Class of 1945, attended South Point United Methodist Church and loved gardening and flowers.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Lee (Susan) Sands; a daughter, Janet Lynn Sands Fitzpatrick; a daughter-in- law, Patty Sands; six grandchildren, Eric (Jennifer) Fitzpatrick, Jennifer (Jason) Prall, Emily (Robbie) Gorby, Shellie (Youssouf) Sands, Ethan (Kassie) Fitzpatrick and Stacey (Zach Neiheisel) Sands; 13 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Alyssa, Matthew Prall, Mohamed Fall, Maliah Fitzpatrick, Isaac, Gabe, Luke, Paisley, Whitley Fitzpatrick, Stephen, Samuel and Sarah Gorby; and a close friend, Nancy Marcello.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point with pastor Terry Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Community House of Ashland, Kentucky, for their wonderful care. Ralph W. Kimball, 82, of Chesapeake, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Ambrose Long, 63, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Melvin Family Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
