Group collects items for newly-housed vets
HUNTINGTON — A civic group has been collecting goods to help veterans who are getting a new start.
Members of Tri-State Indivisible sought to acquire cleaning supplies for veterans who have recently received housing.
Dakota Nelson, a member of the group who helped coordinate the drive, said members brought the donations in at their meeting on Monday at First Baptist Church in Huntington.
“We gathered more than $500 worth of cleaning supplies for newly housed, previously homeless vets,” Nelson said.
He said the mission of the group is to “empower citizens” and that their meetings have been drawing roughly 100 people since their formation this year.
“There is a cause like this for each meeting,” Nelson said. “In particular we reach out to groups who are not allowed to ask, but desperately need donations.”
