Ralph Owens

Feb. 12, 194 — Feb. 7, 2017

Ralph Edward Owens passed away peacefully on Feb. 7, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at age 74. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Judith Ann; daughters, Kristina (Marty) Angiulli and Kathy (Brian) Ward; son, Ronald Hill, and daughter-in-law, Connie Hill.
He was preceded in death by sons, Raymond and Christopher; sister, Wanda Jean Littlejohn; and brothers, William, Donald, Glen and Richard Owens.
He is also survived by his sisters, Helen Huff and Nancy (Steve) Martin, of Ironton; sister, Delores (Pete) Koenig, of Cincinnati, and Juanita Fairall, of Columbus; and brother, Jerrell (Gail), of Dayton, and sister-in-law Mary Owens.
Ralph was born in Ironton on Feb. 12, 1942, to Bertha and William Owens. He graduated from Coal Grove High School and then entered the United States Air Force retiring after 20 years. He earned several medals for distinguished service. Following his retirement, he moved to Tampa, Florida and continued his government career as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. He spent 20 years in this capacity, retiring again in 2002. After this retirement he became very fond of traveling, most of all cruising, and opened a travel business which fueled his passion. He and Judy enjoyed over 30 cruises along with traveling in the good old United States.
Funeral services were conducted in February in Florida.

Donald Savitz

Feb. 18, 1935 — March 8, 2017

Donald Robert Savitz, 82, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Johnstown, Pennsylvania native was born Feb. 18, 1935, a son of the late Bert Lynn and Ruth Klare Savitz.
Mr. Savitz was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a former wastewater plant operator for the Village of South Point, retiring after 25 years of service there.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marylin Brockmeir.
He is survived by two sons, Lynn and Nancy Savitz, of Chesapeake, and Robert and Tessa Moir-Savitz, of Galloway; and two grandchildren, Calloway Savitz and Quintin Savitz.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Larry Plants

July 27, 1940 — March 9, 2016

Larry Jack Plants, 76, of South Point, died Thursday, March 9, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. He was born July 27, 1940, in Huntington, West Virginia, a son of the late Lawrence Dale and Ruth Crawford Plants.
He was a veteran of the United State Air Force and retired as a mechanic from Clays Trailer Sales.
Larry is survived by his wife, Ramona Fletcher Plants; two sons, Larry Jack (Traci) Plants II, and Alvin “Bub” Plants; three grandchildren, Brittany N. Powell, Chelsi (Joe) Phillips and Ryan (Amanda) Plants; and one great-grandchild, Zeke Phillips.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, at First Southern Baptist Church, South Point. Friends may visit from noon-1 p.m. at the church. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is assisting the family with arrangements.
