Families lined up with shopping carts on Saturday to receive food and other needed items.

Backpack Buddies, part of the ministry of Campbell Chapel, located on State Route 141, hosted a giveaway on the parking lot of Ohio University Southern.

Jodie Hunt, the director of the group, said the group had purchased food and clothing for the giveaway, while some came from donations.

This was the fourth giveaway by the group, a nonprofit that provided food to students at 15 schools in the area, she said.

“We have a clothing giveaway twice a year,” she said. “We just had a huge donation come in before we did this.”

Hunt said the group purchased all the items given away on Saturday from a number of sources, such as Walmart, Sam’s Club and Facing Hunger Food Bank.
