WEST PORTSMOUTH — When laying a foundation, it takes one block at a time.
The Green Bobcats began building this season with two solid blocks as they beat the Eastern Brown Warriors 15-5 in five innings and the Portsmouth West Senators 11-2 in a three-team round robin to open the season on Saturday.
Tanner Kimbler and Tayte Carver picked up complete game wins. Kimbler went five innings allowing five hits, striking out seven and walking one while Carver worked seven innings, gave up only four hits, fanned four and walked two.
The offense collected 26 hits over the two games with Carver going 6-of-8 with four runs batted in.
“It a good way to start the season with two wins. It’s a nice building block to start the season” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
“We had good hitting up and down the lineup and we have timely hitting. Our two sophomores threw the ball well. But we still have room for improvement.”
Eastern Brown took a 3-0 lead after two innings but Green scored four times to take the lead for good in the third.
Kimbler, Tyler Darnell and Tayte Carver all singled to load the bases. Trevor Carver walked to force home a run, Hayden Whitis singled in a pair and Derrick Brown singled in the final run.

In the Bobcats’ second game of the game, Green jumped in front early and never trailed.
With one out in the first, Tyler Darnell walked, Tayte Carver singled, Trevor Carver hit into a force out, and then Whitis, Brown and Drew Ramey all walked to force in two runs.
Green made it 8-0 in the fourth.
Maynard and Chase Clark singled, Kimbler was intentionally walked and Tayte Carver reached on a two-base throwing error that allowed two runs to score.
Trevor Carver and Whitis singled in runs, Brown was hit by a pitch and Ramey spanked a two-run single.
West got two runs in the fifth, but Green got the runs back in the sixth.
Tayte Carver singled, stole second and Trevor Carver doubled him home. The throw home sent Trevor Carver to third and he scored on a wild pitch.
Tyler Imes walked and Maynard re-entered the game and stole second. Clark’s infield hit put runners on the corners and Kimbler grounded out to score Maynard.
