PROCTORVILLE — Usually, walks will haunt. But the Fairland Dragons’ pitchers didn’t seem to be that scared.
Three Fairland pitchers combined to give up 13 walks, but they also didn’t allow a hit as the Dragons beat the Symmes Valley Vikings 8-3 on Thursday.
“We played really well. We gave up 13 walks but we didn’t give up any hits,” said Fairland coach Alex Beelen. “we played pretty solid defense and we started hitting the ball. We’re starting to improve.”
Tayton Hunt got the win as he went 4.2 innings. He struck out five and walked eight. Carter Adams went 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and three walks and Dylan Raines pitched the seventh inning striking out two and walking two.
Jace Vonville went 2-3 with a double and three runs batted in to pace the offense. Reilly Sowards was 2-3 as Fairland had nine hits.
Fairland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Tucker Adkins walked, Hunt got a bunt single and Eli Bowen put down a sacrifice bunt. Zach Crawford walked and Dairus Stapleton singled in a run. Sowards and Garrett Looney had back-to-back singles for a run.
The lead went to 5-0 in the second.
Sowards and Looney singled to start the inning, Vonville bunted for a hit to load the bases and Adkins grounded out as a run scored. Two passed balls scored two runs.
Three more runs scored in the third and it was 8-0.
Crawford walked, Stapleton was hit by a pitch and Sowards singled to load the bases. Vonville then doubled to clear the bases.
The Vikings used an error and four walks to score twice in the fifth.
