Ironton routs Raiders
The Ironton Fighting Tigers didn’t like being off for 10 days.
The River Valley Raiders wished they had taken 11 days off.
Ironton shook off the lack of games due to the weather by routing the Raiders 11-1 in five innings on Tuesday.
Garrett Carrico and Tyler Malone combined on a two-hitter as Ironton improved to 2-1. Each pitcher struck out three, walked two and gave up a hit.
“We got good hitting and pitching and solid defense after 10 days off, so that was good,” said Ironton coach Red Burcham. “It was a good overall team effort.”
Ironton had eight hits as Gage Salyers was 2-2 with three runs batted in. Carrico had a double and two RBI.
Ironton scored seven runs in the first inning.
Kyle Kleinman singled, Dane Wilson and Larry Morris walked and Salyers had a two-run single. Brycen Thomas and Tanner Bowles each singled in a run, Joel Blankenship singled and Carrico had a two-run double.
After the Raiders got a run in the top of the second, the Fighting Tigers answered with four in the bottom of the inning.
Wilson walked, Morris and Salyers singled for a run, Thomas and Bowles walked to force in runs and Blankenship’s ground out scored a run.
Ironton hosts Coal Grove on Wednesday.
