CHESAPEAKE — A benefit event is planned for April 29 to raise funds for a Little League coach who is awaiting a kidney transplant.

Chris Perry, a retired Chesapeake resident was recently diagnosed with kidney disease and went on the transplant list this week, LeAnn Randolph, his cousin said.

Perry served in the U.S. Army and, upon returning to Chesapeake, started coaching Little League football and has served as a mentor to youth in the area, Randolph said.

“He always offered to help kids in any way he could,” she said.

The Warriors for Chris Perry fundraising event is set for 6 p.m. at Chesapeake Middle School. Cost is $10, $5 for students and free for children 5 and under.

“What we’re trying to do is raise funds for travel and medical expenses for the family,” Randolph said, noting that Perry will need to make several visits to the Columbus area.

She said anyone who has been coached by Perry is asked to be present for a group photograph on the field that day at 2 p.m. and are encouraged to wear purple and white.

She said they are also looking for a living donor, which could shorten the wait for Perry.

“If there’s a living donor, it could be one to three months, instead of two to three years,” she said.

She said anyone who would like more information on becoming a living donor can contact Warriorsfor ChrisPerry@gmail.com.
