Lady Panthers overcome sluggish outing to win 5-1

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers didn’t have their “A” game, but they still got a passing grade.
The Lady Panthers had three errors but Brooke Webb pitched a one-hitter and they had 10 hits in a 5-1 win over the Huntington St. Joseph Lady Fighting Irish on Tuesday.
“We didn’t have our best game defensively, but we got good pitching and some timely hitting,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
Webb struck out 11 and walked one in going the distance. She also went 2-4 with two doubles at the plate.
Ryleigh Swann, Katy Spears and Lyric Bair all went 2-4 for the Lady Panthers.
The Irish got the Kathryn Metzgar reached on an error, stole second and third and scored on an error.
The Lady Panthers rallied to take the lead for good with three runs in the third.
Spears singled, Webb doubled and Jordan Storms reached on an error to score both runners. Bair and Breanna Russell both singled to score Storms.
Chesapeake got a run in the fourth when Swann singled, moved up on a passed ball and scored on an error.
The final run scored in the sixth when Spears singled and courtesy-runner Lilly Turner scored on Webb’s double.

Chesapeake hosts Fairland on Wednesday.
