PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Trojans used a “ganged up” to shut down the South Point Pointers.
Pitchers Chris Johnson, Zach Kinney and Ryan Williams combined to pitch a seven-hitter as the Trojans beat the Pointers 6-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
The Trojans had 10 hits as Blake Wedebrook went 3-3 with two runs batted in, Ty Oliver 2-3 with a double and two RBI, Mikey Potts 2-3 and Vincent Schwamberger 2-2 with a double.
Tanner Hall and Logan Wade were 2-3 for the Poitners.
The Pointers (6-4) got their only run in the fourth inning when Jonathan Henley doubled, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a ground out by Travis Dillon.
Douglas Shaffer went the distance in taking the loss. He struck out nine and walked two.
South Point is at Fairland on Friday.
