AID — The competition was tough, but so were the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.
In the annual Valley of Thunder on Friday, the Lady Vikings rallied to beat Western Brown 10-9 in the seventh inning but fell to Mansfield Madison 7-0 in the second game.
The Lady Vikings trailed 9-7 heading into the final inning and then turned to their power sticks.
Sarah Kingery started the inning with a home run. Rachael Hayes reached on a missed third strike and Taylor Webb cranked a two-run walk-off home run.
Sierra Ross also homered for the Lady Vikings when she connected with a three-run shot in the third inning.
“Those three girls are really hitting the ball. Our kids had some clutch hits,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “We played two good teams and we played two good games.”
Middleton Madison held the Lady Vikings to just one hit — a singled by Webb.
“We faced a good pitcher and we hit the ball but we hit it right at them,” said Estep.
The Lady Vikings play Hilliard Davidson at 10 a.m. and Hilliard Bradley at 3 p.m.
