Edward Charles Edwards, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Palm Sunday, April 9, 2017. He fought the good fight, he finished the race, and, through it all, he kept the faith.
Ed was born April 23, 1941, in Ironton, and enjoyed childhood years of Sunday afternoon ice cream cones and playing in the grassy fields with friends. Ed “Butchie” met the love of his life, Patricia McGurk, as a junior at Ironton High School and married her in 1960. Together they welcomed four children and five grandchildren into their lives all of whom deeply grieve his passing, Amy Edwards Webb, husband Joe Webb, Kathy Edwards Percer, husband Justin Percer, William David Edwards, fiancé Kim Barker, Charles Daniel Edwards, wife Lia Edwards; and grandchildren, Heather Wicks, Kelsey Wicks, Thomas Edwards, Emma Edwards and Isabelle Edwards.
Ed was truly a pioneer in computing science, moving to Columbus, where he began to work at Battelle Memorial Institute, working on defense projects to protect and defend our nation. From there, Ed moved to Seattle where he settled into a productive and exciting career with Boeing, eventually retiring as the Director of Computing Services in 1999. Ed and Pat spent many blessed years traveling the country together, enjoying the splendor of God’s creation ‘from sea to shining sea’ until a chest cold led to Ed’s heart disease in 2003. Cared for by his adoring wife and loving children, Ed defied all the odds and far outlived the expectations. He continued with his scientific endeavors, even unto his passing enrolling in medical studies and trials to help further the knowledge of heart disease and treatments.
Special thanks to the incredible medical providers, nurses and patient care technicians at the University of Washington who were always so kind and caring. They gave Ed many more years with his family than anyone thought possible. Dad, we miss you.
