Just call him The Main Dane.
Dane Wilson was the main focus for the Ironton Fighting Tigers as he outdueled Gallipolis’ left-hander Josh Faro 1-0 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Wilson struck out four, walked three and gave up just two hits. He threw just 97 pitches in his complete game.
“Dane always got the first batter out in each inning and we just made the plays. We have been in a lot of tight games and it was good to win it,” said Ironton coach Red Burcham.
Faro gave up three hits, struck out nine and walked four in taking the loss.
Ironton (7-2-1, 4-1) scored the only run of the game in the first inning.
Garrett Carrico and Brycen Thomas walked and Wilson singled to load the bases. Kyle Kleinman then singled home Carrico.
Gallipolis (6-5, 3-3) mounted its only threat in the seventh.
With one out, Jeremy Brumfield singled and Bailey Walker walked. But Wilson got Tanner Allen to hit a liner back to mound and Wilson threw to first baseman Larry Morris to catch pinch-runner Kaden Thomas off the base and complete the double play to end the game.
Jeremy Brumfield and Garrett McGuire were 1-3 for Gallipolis (6-5, 5-1).
Ironton visits Fairland on Tuesday and hosts Fairland on Wednesday before visiting Gallipolis on Thursday in a makeup game.
