Lady Hornets pound out win over Trojans

COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets were a hitting machine.
The Lady Hornets spanked out 12 hits as they beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 10-5 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
Lauren Meyer was 3-3 with three runs scored. Kasey Murphy went 2-4 with two RBI, Lauren Crum 2-4 with a double, Amaya Waulk 2-4 with a double and three RBI, Ali Waller 1-4 and an RBI, Gracie Riley 1-2 with a double and two RBI and Destiny Napier 1-3.
Murphy picked up the win as she struck out seven, walked three, gave up seven hits and only three of the five runs were earned.
Portsmouth was led by Semajah Parker who went 3-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI. Andi Queen was 2-4, Sharia Kearns 1-3 and Eliza Gullett 1-4 with a double and an RBI.
After Portsmouth scored a run in the top of the first inning, Coal Grove got two-run double by Waulk and a run-scoring single by Ali Waller in the bottom of the inning.
Riley doubled in a run and Waulk singled in another run in the second inning.
The Lady Hornets got four runs in the third inning highlight by Murphy’s RBI single and an error.
Coal Grove hosts Ironton on Friday.
