CHESAPEAKE — It was just your typical Rock Hill vs. Chesapeake game.
The Rock Hill Redmen edged the Chesapeake Panthers 5-4 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
“It was a good ballgame. It went down to the wire again. It was a typical Rock Hill and Chesapeake game,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.
“We pitched well, Browning pitched well, we were just able to get runners on and get them home when we needed. We took advantage of their mistakes and scored.”
Logan Hankins got the win as he worked six innings for the win. He struck out eight, walked three and two of the four runs were earned.
Nick Blankenship worked the seventh for the save.
Rock Hill (7-3, 5-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Cody Lewis walked but was thrown out at third when Logan Hankins singled. Hankins went to second. Kaleb Kidd then doubled in the run.
Rock Hill got a run in the second when Kaden France singled, Seth Nichols had an infield hit, Mason Darby sacrificed the runners up a base and Jake Blagg was safe on an error as the run score.
Zach Wright and Austin Browning both doubled for the Panthers run in the second.
Rock Hill went up 4-1 in the third.
Kidd walked, Landon Smith put down a sacrifice and Kyle Stanfield reached on a fielder’s choice.
France walked and Nichols had an RBI single. Stanfield came home on a wild pitch.
“We give away too many games,” said Panthers’ coach Justin Davis.
Chesapeake got two runs in the fourth when Dalton Nida doubled, Browning walked and both scored on an error.
Each team got a run in the sixth.
Darby walked and Blagg was safe when his sacrifice was misplayed for an error. Lewis followed with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the sixth Browning walked, stole second and scored on a hit by Tyler Eddy.
On Friday, Rock Hill is at South Point and Chesapeake hosts Portsmouth.
