PROCTORVILLE — It’s been the same formula for the Rock Hill Redmen. Pitching plus defense and lots of hits equal a win.
The Redmen had 15 hits to back the one-hit pitching of Logan Hankins as they beat the Fairland Dragons 11-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Hankins struck out nine and walked six in going six innings. Nick Blankenship pitched the seventh.
“Hankins threw the ball well and kept them off-balance. We played good defense and we hit the ball. We took advantage of their walks and put them together with out hits to score a bunch of runs,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.
Cody Lewis was 3-5 with a home run and four runs batted in for the Redmen. Kyle Stanfield was 3-3, Mason Darby 2-3 and Hankins 2-4 as all nine starters got a hit.
Rock Hill (8-4, 6-4) took a 1-0 lead in the first on a long home run by Lewis.
Fairland got its run in the second when Garrett Looney walked with two outs and Tayten Hunt tripled.
Rock Hill took the lead with two runs in the third.
Hankins and Landon Smith walked and pulled off a double steal. Stanfield then doubled in both runners.
The Redmen went up 7-1 in the fifth.
Smith doubled, took third on an error and came home on a hit by Stanfield who was later thrown out stealing.
With two outs, Seth Nichols and Darby walked, Jake Blagg had an RBI single and Lewis had a two-run single.
Rock Hill got four more runs in the seventh.
Darby and Nichols singled and then Lewis, Hankins, Kaleb Kidd and Stanfield all followed with RBI singles.
On Wednesday, Rock Hill visits Portsmouth at 6 p.m. and Fairland is at Coal Grove.
