CHESAPEAKE — You should have seen the one that got away.
The Chesapeake Panthers were on the verge of an upset but the Gallipolis Blue Devils managed to rally for a 7-5 win in eight innings on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Gallipolis (12-5, 9-3) won its sixth straight by tying the game in the top of the seventh and scoring two runs in the eighth.
Gallipolis got a run in the seventh when Jeremy Brumfield, Tanner Allen and Bailey Walker all walked and Josh Faro hit a sacrifice fly.
In the eighth, Cole Davis and Brody Thomas singled, Brumfield was intentionally walked and Tanner Allen was hit by a pitch to force in a run. After a force out at home, Faro walked to force in another run.
Chesapeake took a 1-0 lead in the first when Dalton Nida singled and Austin Browning reached on an error.
The Blue Devils got single runs in the second and third inning and two in the fifth to lead 4-1, but the Panthers rallied with three runs in the sixth.
With two outs, Jamey Mills singled, Kelton Jones walked, Casey McComas was hit by a pitch and Tyler Eddy had a two-run single.
Nida was intentionally walked and Browning singled in McComas.
The Panthers threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Evan Burcham led off with a single and went to third on an outfield error.
But Gallipolis pitcher John Stout got a fly out and two strikeouts to end the threat.
On Friday, Chesapeake is at Fairland and Gallipolis hosts Portsmouth.
