Relay for Life set for May 19

SOUTH POINT— The 2017 American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Lawrence County is set for 6-10 p.m. Friday, May 19 at South Point High School.

The event unites cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers and community members in an effort to free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer.

Funds raised will help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.

During Relay for Life events, members of each team take turns walking around a track or path, and teams participate in fundraising months leading up to the event.

A survivor lap will kick things off at 6:15 p.m., immediately followed by a reception in which all cancer survivors are invited.

At 6:30 p.m., Zumba will be conducted, and a Luminaria Ceremony will take place around 8:30 p.m.

Also part of the event is a vendor fair, which will include Jamberry Nails, LulaRoe, Paparazzi Jewelry, 31, Perfectly Posh, Avon, Younique and more.

The Relay for Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer.

Uniting families across the globe, Relay for Life celebrates people who have battled cancer, remembers loved ones lost and takes action for lifesaving change.
