CHILLICOTHE — Pitching and defense have carried the Chesapeake Panthers this season. It seems the only problem at times has been scoring runs.
It was the same story on Thursday.
Gunnar Free pitched a two-hitter as the Adena Warriors blanked the Chesapeake Panthers 7-0 in the Division III district semifinals at Paint Stadium.
Wes Malavenda and Zach Wright each went 1-3 for Chesapeake. Both hits were singles.
Chesapeake pitchers Bryce Depriest and held the Warriors at bay except for a four-run fifth inning that was fueled by two errors.
The game was scoreless until Adena got a run in the fourth inning when Bo Dratwa doubled and Jake Dawson singled.
The Warriors opened up a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning on two errors, two walks and a three-run triple by Henness.
The final two runs scored in the sixth on two walks and two singles.
Blevins was 3-3 and Dratwa 2-2 as Adena got 10 hits.
Chesapeake finishes the season at 12-13.
Adena will play Wheelersburg at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the district finals at Paint Stadium.
