HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall redshirt sophomore center Levi Brown has been named to the Rimington Trophy’s 2017 Spring Watch List, the award’s committee announced Monday.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A college football.
Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.9 million for the cystic fibrosis community.
The award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $130 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.
Dave Rimington, the award’s namesake, was a consensus first-team All-American center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the Outland Trophy’s only double winner as the nation’s finest college interior lineman.
Brown was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team in 2016, as voted by the league’s 13 head coaches.
He was one of a league-high four Marshall players on the All-Freshman team, which included only five offensive linemen across the conference. He was the only center among those five to be recognized.
The Thundering Herd will begin its 2017 campaign against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday, Sept. 2, in Joan C. Edwards Stadium. The start time for that game will be announced at a later date.
