Company will break ground on South Point facility Thursday

SOUTH POINT— HarbisonWalker International, the United State’s largest supplier of refractory products, will break ground on its new South Point monolithic refractories manufacturing site at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

HWI announced that it had chosen The Point Industrial Park, in South Point, for its new facility on March 27, citing the “unique transportation, logistics and business amenities” at The Point that “combine to create an ideal and cost-effective match for the requirements of our new facility,” as senior vice president Douglas Hall explained. This included “efficiencies that are simply not possible elsewhere,” he said, such as proximity to suppliers, supporting infrastructure, and long-term partnership opportunities.

Monolithic refractories, which can be shaped or molded to meet a broad range of needs, are one of the strongest growth categories in the refractories industry, according to HWI.

HWI expects the plant, touted as “one of the most technologically advanced refractories plants built in the U.S.,” to be completed and operational by early next year.
