Charles Gates

July 14, 1938 — Aug. 6, 2017

Charles David Gates, 79, of Raceland, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, after a short illness. Charles passed away peacefully at Hospice of Ashland with his wife at his side. He was born in Ashland, Kentucky, on July 14, 1938, to the late Harold and Sara Katherine Gates.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Katherine Blevins Gates; stepson, Gary Hopkins; five sisters, Mary Harrison, Ruth Heston, Betty Mattox, Louise King and Barbara Coleman; and three brothers, Richard Gates, Harold “Bud” Gates and John Gates.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lillian Schneider Gates; son, Scott and Leslie Gates, of Virginia; stepdaughter, Jodi Riggs, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; granddaughter, Hannah Gates; step-grandchildren, Matthew and Lindsay Riggs and Wendy Patterson; sister, Carole Kay Elliott, of Savannah, Georgia; special friend, Sandra Justice, of Raceland, Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Charles was retired from the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 577, of Portsmouth, and in the past owned Rail City Furniture Store in Russell, Kentucky. He was a member of Local order of Local Order of Moose Lodge 1753, of Okeechobee, Florida, and Sons of American Legion 0043, of Raceland, Kentucky. Charles enjoyed spending winter in their home in Okeechobee, Florida, going to flea markets, yard sales and traveling with his wife.
Visitation for friends and family will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Evans Funeral Home, Raceland, Kentucky. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with burial at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens, Russell, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Coal Grove Church of the Nazarene or Hospice of Ashland. Evans Funeral Home, Raceland, Kentucky, is in charge of arrangements.

Terri Adkins

Terri Lynn Adkins, 48, of South Point, passed away Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017. She was born April 16, 1969, in Huntington, West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by one niece, Tonya Lynn Black.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Adkins; father, Bobby Black, of Proctorville; mother and stepfather, Faye and Ernie Sheppard, of South Point; one son, Justin Adkins, of South Point, two sisters, Sue A. Scarberry, od Chesapeake, and Brenda Lee Taylor, of Poca, West Virginia; and nieces and nephews, Brittany, Danny Lee, Savanna, Jonathan, Jessica “Jet Jet,” Calvin, Jeffrey and Ashley.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, by pastor Gordon Simpson and pastor Tom Jones. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller. Wanda Lee Schneider Swatman, 76, of Vandalia, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
